Alloy Wheel Technician - Bamber Bridge

Reporting to: PDI Prep Centre Manager/ Workshop Controller

Hours of work: Monday to Thursday 08.30am to 5pm, Friday 08.30am to 4pm

Overview

Working from Simpsons Skoda Prep Centre based in Bamber Bridge where all our cars are prepared both mechanically and cosmetically for sale. As an Alloy Wheel Refurbishment Technician, you will be responsible for performing high-quality wheel repairs and refurbishments, including alloy wheel repairs, diamond cut finishes. Ideally You should have experience in the latest wheel refurbishment techniques and processes, including using specialist equipment and tools. You will also be responsible for completing paint touch ins and machine polish on vehicles when required.

1. Main purpose of the job

Your jobs will include but are not limited to

· Organise your jobs/ vehicles in order of date and time requirement

· Complete repairs in a timely and efficient manor

· Record clearly works carried out in accordance with Skoda guidelines

· Remove/Strip/Refit/Balance wheels and tyre's

· Strip wheels using various techniques

· Dress and repair wheels using various techniques

· Where appropriate use the shot-blaster to clean/ key wheel surface

· Paint/recoat wheels

· Diamond cut repairs

· Stone chip touch ins, machine polish vehicles

· General housekeeping duties

Health & Safety Including PPE

You must ensure you always follow the company and the manufactures health & safety guidelines and recommendations linked to safe working practice.

COSHH sheets for the application and use of all products can be supplied direct from:

Glasurit: Paint manufacturer

Cunbar: Supplier of paint and materials

STL: Paint booths & air quality

Premier: Gun cleaners & equipment

You must ensure full PPE is used to reflect the task you are undertaking

Vehicle Protection

Ensure all company and customer vehicles are fully protected using seat covers, floor mats and appropriate wraps prior to any work commencing.

Safe storage of all displaced vehicle parts.

Repair and Preparation

Carry out panel and paint rectification work using when required dust extraction system and specialist tools supplied by the company

Whenever possible utilise smart repair techniques

Carry out minor plastic repair work

Wheels

Safely remove wheels and tyres from vehicles to carry out alloy wheel repair and painting

Repair work strictly limited to superficial kerb damage and scuffing of the paint surface

Carry out minor paint repair work whenever possible to diamond cut wheels

Ensure that all wheel bolts are correctly torqued up and tyres are inflated to the correct pressure

Paint Mixing

Mix colour to match original finish using the mixing scheme and smart scales

Accurate mixing of all wet material to minimise wastage

Waste wet materials to be safety stored before removal by contractor

Painting

Spray painting of all primers, final colour and lacquers must take place inside the enclosed dedicated paint bays utilising the paint extraction system

The painter must wear suitable protective clothing and gloves

Safe breathing air fed respirator and masks must be used when spray painting

Final Detailing & Quality Check

Carry out final detailing and polishing of finished work

Ensure that all electrical cables are in good working order

All work must be quality checked to ensure the vehicle is suitable for retailing or for handover back to the customer

House Keeping

Maintain a clean and organised work area

Carry out basic daily / weekly checks on all fixed and mobile equipment used to complete your work Including basic maintenance of Alloy wheel Machine, buffing machines, paint booths, mixing room, compressor and dust extraction system

Follow all the health and safety guidelines provided by the company, manufacturer and suppliers

Job Cards and Estimating

Job cards must be written up on completion of work to reflect work completed against the repair estimate and work authorised

You may also be required to assist your line manager with the preparation of estimates if requested

Training

Attend whenever required specialist training on and off site by paint manufacturer or supplier.
